Laura and Dubya beamed with pride when they got to meet their new little Poppy

On Thursday afternoon, hours after Jenna Bush Hager announced the birth of her second daughter, Poppy, former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura released a statement and photo welcoming the newest member of the family.

“Laura and I are overjoyed to meet our second grandchild today,” the statement read.

“Poppy Louise Hager entered the world yesterday in New York City, but we consider her an honorary Texan.”

The attached photo shows a beaming W. and Laura holding their new grandchild, as their 2-year-old granddaughter Mila smiles on.

“We are grateful to God — and to Jenna and Henry — for this beautiful, healthy gift of life,” the Bush’s wrote.

Though a statement from former President George H.W. Bush has yet arrive, one would imagine that he too will be beaming with joy. Poppy Louise was named in tribute to the first President Bush, as he was called Poppy as a schoolboy.
