As he prepares to say goodbye to the late night stage he has patrolled for over thirty years, David Letterman has been bringing out some heavy hitters for his final shows.

Monday night’s telecast proved to be no different as Letterman sat back and watched singer Tracy Chapman serenade millions of viewers with a stunning cover of “Stand By Me.”

Before Chapman came on stage, Letterman explained that “Stand By Me” held a special place in his heart, recalling how he played it to his son over and over again when he was a little boy.
