When Freddie Mercury died, David Bowie paid tribute to his friend in the only way that he knew how

During the early 1990s, there were few moments that shocked the word more than the death of Queen singer Freddie Mercury.

Following his death, a benefit concert was organized during which dozens of Mercury’s friends, and other massive bands like Metallica and Guns N’ Roses joined the Wembley Stadium stage along with the surviving members of Queen for hours upon hours of tributes and amazing musical collaborations.

One of those amazing collaborations came in the form of a cover of “Under Pressure,” the hit song David Bowie had recorded with Queen only a decade earlier.

This time, Bowie was paired with Annie Lennox of the Eurthymics, who held her own and fulfilled the daunting task of paying tribute to Freddie Mercury.

“The phrase ‘great live performance’ is often over-used,” one YouTube commenter said of the clip, decades later.

“This is truly one of the great live performances in rock history.”
