Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), a man who one day wishes to be the leader of the most powerful nation on the planet, was campaigning in Iowa on Friday when he got an unexpected brush with Hollywood.

While Sen. Cruz was happily manning a grill filled with meat, actress Ellen Page, of “Juno” and “X-Men” fame, wanted Sen. Cruz to rationalize why he and many Republicans are so anti-gay.

As Page peppered Cruz with questions regarding lesbian and gay rights, Cruz turned the table, alluding that Christians were being persecuted more than gays.

“Well, what we’re seeing right now, we’re seeing Bible-believing Christians being persecuted for living according to their faith,” Cruz told Page.

According to ABC, Page is currently in Iowa working on a project with Vice.

Page, who came out in early 2015, told Cruz that he was “discriminating against LGBT people.”

Cruz, who was manning the pork chop grill, said that he didn’t want to have a debate.

Friday’s meetup wouldn’t be the first time Page has criticized Cruz. In 2013, she sent a few pointed tweets to her followers making her opinion on her fellow Canadian clear.
