Leah Remini is preparing to release an eight-part series on Scientology entitled “Scientology and the Aftermath” and unsurprisingly, the church is trying to keep her tell-all off the air. Vulture reported that the church wrote to A&E (where the show is airing) trying to smear Remini, calling her a “spoiled, entitled diva” and a “has-been actress.” In response to the church’s bullying, Remini is demanding $1.5 million in damages.

Remini sat down with Ellen DeGeneres a few days ago to discuss her upcoming documentary. The actress said that she’s been fortunate since leaving the church because people are often “bullied into silence.”

Tony Ortega’s blog, which acts as a sort of “Scientology watchdog,” stated that in response to her lawyer’s requests the church responded that “demands are nothing more than a provocative ploy to generate publicity for what will no doubt be another failed program by a failed ‘celebrity’ seeking to make a buck off of her former religion.” Ortega’s site, The Underground Bunker, also published correspondences between Remini’s lawyers and those representing the Church of Scientology and neither side is backing down. It seems that rather than respond with a settlement, the Scientologists are going on the attack.
