Robert Irwin didn’t really get to know his father. Steve Irwin, a renowned Australian entertainer and zoologist, died in 2006, when Robert was only a toddler.

Now a teenager, Robert is carrying on his dad’s legacy by using comedy and charm to help people understand animals.

In a Thursday night appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Robert sat down with the host and talked about his surreal experience.

“My dad was actually on ‘The Tonight Show’ quite a while ago, so it’s really nice to follow in his footsteps,” Irwin said. “I think I’m the luckiest kid on Planet Earth.”

Later in the segment, Robert showed off some of his favorite animals, including a dwarf crocodile and a baby armadillo.
