People have been fawning over Kate Middleton’s style since she first came under the public eye when marrying Prince William.

But there’s a common element people recently have begun pointing out: she often is holding clutches with her dress.

Although others often opt for strap purses, the Duchess of Cambridge always has a clutch.

According to a fashion expert, there’s a very good explanation.

“When the Duchess is at an event, she holds her bag in front of her in both hands when shaking hands might be awkward,” royals fashion expert Myka Meier tells Good Housekeeping.

“Or she can place it in one hand to have the other free. It never gets tucked under an arm or placed on the ground or table,” Meier points out.  “If there’s not a stool available, slip it between your back and the back of the chair.”
