Pippa Middleton is headed down the aisle, and while you would think her first pick for matron of honor would be her big sister, Kate, that’s apparently not the case.

PEOPLE reports that while Princess Kate is “absolutely delighted” to hear her sister is engaged to hedge-fund manager James Matthews, she may decide against being in the bridal party as to not overshadow the bride on her big day.

Pippa made headlines when she served as Maid of Honor when her sister wed Prince William in the 2011 royal wedding, so her wedding will probably have just as much scrutiny. And Kate wants to avoid any spotlight stealing.

“Kate would upstage her sister,” royals writer Judy Wade said. “It’s a tricky situation for Pippa. She would want her sister by her side, as who else would she trust to make things go well? But if your sister is a future Queen, she is going to upstage the bride and draw attention. Kate would want to be in the background as much as possible.”

In 1986, when Sarah Ferguson wed Prince Andrew, the late Princess Diana did not serve as a bridesmaid. Her sisters, Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, were already wed when Princess Diana became a royal.

Even if Princess Kate cannot be a part of the team, we sure hope that Prince George and Princess Charlotte will serve as ring bearer and flower girl!
