On Jan. 3, the Texas-born singer-songwriter shared heartbreaking news with fans on Twitter that his father, Tommy Allsup, 84, had been rushed to the hospital.

At this point, it is unclear as to what illness Tommy is suffering from, but he was taken to an Intensive Care Unit. Austin tweeted out, “My dad Tommy Allsup is in ICU and could use some prayers. Thank [you].”

Fans may recall that Austin’s father is a longtime musician known as the artist who lost a coin toss to Ritchie Valens. The loss required him to give up his seat on the plane that killed legends Ritchie, Buddy Holly and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson on Feb. 3, 1959. Fans may also recall that Waylon Jennings also lost a coin flip for a seat on the same flight during that fateful night as well.

Austin is the second Team Blake member in less than a month to reveal heart-rending news about his father. Before the start of the New Year, season 11 winner Sundance Head shared that his father, Roy Head, who is famous for the ‘60s hit “Treat Her Right,” was also in ICU following a ruptured aorta. Sundance has updated his fans since then. And, it turns out that his pops is improving.

When Sundance found out about Austin’s father’s condition, he reached out to his Team Blake pal and tweeted, “Two Texas music legends in need, please pray and spread the word. @AustinAllsup I love you bro. I hope this will help we have a strong faith.”

Rare Country’s hearts go out to Austin, Sundance and their respective fathers at this time.
