A rare winter storm in Nashville brings out the best in country stars

It’s rare, but it happens.

On Jan. 6, Nashville woke up to a full-on winter display with a significant enough snowfall to either cancel school or send the kiddos home early. Although the accumulation and declarations of “snowpocalypse” would likely make those north of the Mason Dixon line chuckle, it was still a snow day to be taken advantage of down South. And among those dragging out sleds and buckling up their boots were country stars, their kids and even their pets.

Jana Kramer was among the first to bundle up her baby for little Jolie’s first snow adventure. Looking precious in pink, the sweet tot will celebrate her first birthday later this month, so she was much too young to appreciate the smattering of precipitation that hit Music City last year.

Thomas Rhett and lovely wife Lauren Akins don’t have babies yet, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t let their pair of Catahoula pups enjoy a little fun in the snow. They seem to be unaffected by the temps that peaked at a chilly 22 degrees!

He may sing about the “Outskirts of Heaven,” but in reality, Craig Campbell lives in the outskirts of Nashville. And if you question his country roots, which you shouldn’t, check out his idea of winter fun with his daughters. In the absence of hills for sledding, you make do.

Jerrod Niemann and his bride, Morgan, have a passel of pups living in their home and among them is Beulah June. Now, one might expect that a senior dog would hate the cold, snow and wind, but in Beulah’s case, she’s feeling like a puppy when the snowflakes tickle her nose.

Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott found a virtual bobsled path for her husband, Chris, and baby Eisele, to take a run at. They seem to get a little off course, but that doesn’t bother the little pink snow bunny who hits the bottom laughing.

Rare Country’s Hunter Kelly managed to catch some precious footage of his smallest pup’s first time in the snow. The tiny dachshund pup, Mandrell, was barely big enough for his tiny belly to breach the snow, but that didn’t deter him from exploring the foreign weather. Mandrell is one of five pups owned by Hunter.

Nashville had nothing on Steamboat Springs, Colorado where the best in Texas, Texas Country and Red Dirt music where hunkering down for their annual weeklong music festival in frigid temps and two feet of snow. Of course, that didn’t scare off Texan Zane Williams, who took his own kind of polar bear plunge in the powder.

Winter weather isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, though. Country stars Kip Moore, Sam Hunt and Maren Morris and her beau Ryan Hurd are waiting out the snow on balmy beaches, but Kelsea Ballerini went the farthest south. She’s still in Australia with her fiancé, Morgan Evans.
