If Miranda Lambert wins her eighth consecutive Female Vocalist of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday night, she will break her tie with Reba McEntire and become the all-time winner in that category.

That didn’t even occur to Miranda until an ACM staff member told her after her an awards show rehearsal.

There are some really strong acts also in that Female Vocalist category that could prevent Miranda from achieving that feat, though. Carrie Underwood, Kelsea Ballerini, Maren Morris and Kacey Musgraves are all serious contenders for Female Vocalist, along with Miranda. That’s all good with Miranda, though.

She tells Rare Country, “I love it. I think that competition is a good thing. We’re all stepping up our game. I’m really proud of the girls. It’s finally turning to where there’s more female artists that are really good. I’m proud to still be in the category, and I’m also happy to pass the crown.”

No matter what awards she wins, Miranda is sure to stop the show with her solo acoustic performance of “Tin Man,” a standout track from her latest album, “The Weight of These Wings.”

The 52nd Annual ACM Awards broadcast live from Las Vegas at 8 p.m. ET Sunday, April 2 on CBS.
