It’s the kind of news that we didn’t expect to hear but were secretly hoping would happen. We were crossing our fingers that Blake Shelton and his rock-star girlfriend Gwen Stefani would one day reunite on the set of NBC’s “The Voice.”
Well, fans and hopeless romantics can now rejoice, because the couple will, in fact, be co-starring again on the reality singing competition series!
According to PEOPLE, it was announced on Oct. 18 that Gwen has signed on to return for season 12 of the hit show. But, don’t assume that there will be five red chairs spinning around. Instead, Gwen will take the place of Miley Cyrus. She will be appearing alongside beau Blake, veteran judge Adam Levine and current newbie Alicia Keys.
“We can’t wait to experience the unique chemistry and energy Gwen, Alicia, Blake and Adam will bring to season 12,” said Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Reality Group, NBC Entertainment.
Gwen, of course, is no stranger to “The Voice,” having appeared on three different seasons. It was during season 9 when sparks flew between her and the “Sangria” singer At the time, both stars were going through painful splits from their respective exes. Blake divorced Miranda Lambert back in July 2015, and Gwen parted ways with Gavin Rossdale a month later.
Since then, Shefani’s relationship has grown so much. They even co-penned their duet “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” together, which they debuted on “The Voice” earlier this year.
We can’t wait to see even more of Blake and Gwen’s romance play out in front of our eyes. Season 12 of “The Voice” will begin in February 2017. Miley is expected to rejoin the show for season 13.
