If you know anything about Eric Church, you know that he’s a guy that looks forward, not back. That makes his newest video somewhat of a surprise.

A decade after he arrived on the scene with his debut album, “Sinners Like Me,” in July of 2006. Eric has released a video for the title track that for the last 10 years has been locked inside the ever elusive vault.

A message Facebook reads ‘This video has been sitting in our vault for 10 years, waiting for this very moment’. Eric’s first album ‘Sinners Like Me’ came out 10 years ago today. With classic songs like ‘These Boots,’ ‘Two Pink Lines,’ ‘Pledge Allegiance to the Hag’ and ‘Sinners Like Me,’ this album defined Eric as we know him — one decade later. Do you love ‘Sinners?’ Share this with your friends and let us know your favorite song from the album.”

The video is a great piece but even better now that it’s 10 years old. The grainy black-and-white video shows a young Eric, long before he disappeared before his now-trademark aviators, with so much hope and future in his eyes.

Even the song, a single back in 2007 but a flop as far as the charts were considered, speaks volumes about Eric both then and now. With lyrics that profess his born-into-it life of revelry and defiance, the song doesn’t fit the “radio model” for singles. Ten years ago you can see why radio may have balked at this from a first-time artist who hadn’t cracked the Top 10 with his first three tries. But looking back, you can see that this song from the lyrics to the style fits Eric perfectly.

It’s nice to be able to look back and see that Eric Church has never been a guy to chase a trend or sell out for a dream. He’s always just been exactly who he is, which is why 10 years later he’s having a record year.
