We have just learned that David Abbott, the father of Texas country music superstar Josh Abbott, has passed away.
In a post on his Instagram page, Josh shares the sad news. He writes, “Last night my father went to be with the Lord. I know he’s in a better place but I will truly miss him so much. I will miss our talks, our hunts and our hugs. Our little family is crushed right now.”

We first learned that Josh’s dad had suffered a debilitating stroke just two weeks ago. Josh had shared the news on Instagram then as well. He says that the effects were delayed and hit hard.

Then, a week later, he shared another photo of his mother tenderly kissing his father’s forehead while he lay in a hospital bed. His message was poignant. “I debated whether to post this pic or not, but I believe the love shown here is worth sharing in a social media world so full of hate, cynicism & vanity. It’s not a holiday; no one is posing or smiling; it;s just my mom being there for my dad, 38 years, for better or worse.”

On Feb. 28, Josh shared the news that he was cancelling shows until March 12 because his family was anticipating that they would lose his father very soon. Sadly, it was just two days later that the senior Abbott passed away.
Our deepest sympathies are with Josh, his mother and their family during this incredibly difficult time.
