Amidst the excitement of the recent CMA Awards and the flurry of activity surrounding the release of her new music, country songbird Faith Hill endured a heartbreaking loss — the passing of her mother, Edna Perry.

Faith often spoke of the religious environment that her parents raised her in and credits their encouraging her to sing in the family’s Baptist church, as well as other local churches of all denominations, as giving her a start as a performer.

That has obviously been heavy on Faith’s heart as she laid her mother to rest, then, just weeks later, released her new album, “Deep Tracks.” The record is a collection of songs from previous projects that were never released as singles, along with a handful of tracks that were recorded but never made it to any of her projects. One of those songs, “Come to Jesus,” is particularly important to Faith.

In a new Instagram post, she shared a clip of the song from her recently released album and said, “Three weeks today, my mom passed away. Mom often asked if I would ever get around to recording a Gospel album. That’s all she wanted to hear me sing. I’m thankful she was able to hear this song before she took a seat on the glory train. This is ‘Come to Jesus’ dedicated to my mom.”

The song is a bluesy, swampy and fiddle-laden number with soaring vocals and a gritty chorus, reminiscent of the music from the Delta region of Faith’s home state, Mississippi. It was written by singer-songwriter Mindy Smith who lost her own mother 25 years earlier. She sent Faith a message on Instagram saying, “I am sad to learn of your mother’s passing. I can totally relate. Thank you for choosing #ComeToJesus as a song for healing. It has gotten me through a lot of very hard times, too. Sending love, light and prayers to you and your family in this difficult time.”

No announcement has been made about future music from Faith; however, she and Tim will be hitting the road next year for the next round of their Soul2Soul Tour dates, so we’re hopeful for a new project of originals soon.
