From romantic ballads to power anthems, these Shania Twain hits stand the test of country music time

Rare Country

It’s impossible to think about ’90s country music and not conjure up an image of the hot and talented Shania Twain. The beautiful brunette from Canada dominated the country charts with hit after hit, and those songs became some of our favorite singalong and karaoke smashes.

It’s been 15 years since the bona fide diva released a new album, but we hear that’s coming this year. To prepare for that big event, Erin Holt is looking at our five favorite Shania Twain hits in Rare Country’s 5.

While we typically remember those fun pop, country hits that got our boots on the dance floor, Shania could definitely dig deep and when she did, it was pretty magical. “You’re Still the One” got us on the hardwoods, too, but it was more to bump bellies than it was to kick up our heels. It wasn’t Shania’s first single or even her first No. 1, but it was the first romantic smash that topped the charts.

Shania could definitely stand all on her own, but she also released some pretty great duets, including a delicious collaboration with Bryan White called “From This Moment On.” The consummate wedding song, Shania and Bryan’s combined voices have a great texture that gave us all goose bumps and made us dream of a trip down the aisle.

“Let’s go girls.” Who knows what comes after that? We all do, right? In 1999, Shania delivered a song to her fans that would stay with them forever and trickle down to those fan’s children. “Man, I Feel Like a Woman” became an anthem that embraced everything about being female and made even the girly quirks OK. And the video! Even if you weren’t a country music fan, you had to chuckle at Shania’s nod to Robert Palmer’s “Addicted to Love.”

One thing that stands out about Shania songs is that each usually delivered at least one line that stood out and triggers us to remember the whole song. Her very first No. 1, “Any Man of Mine,” was the breakthrough hit that started it all. While the song is immediately recognizable from the opening riffs and boot-stompin’ intro, it’s at the end when we get to “shimmy, shake, make the earth quake.”

Sometimes we forget that in addition to being a great singer and an amazing entertainer, Shania is a stellar songwriter. With the exception of her self-titled debut, Shania has been a writer or co-writer on all of the songs on every album. “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under” was our first glimpse of this country star’s amazing talent, and it set a precedence for what followed.

Five is just too short a list for us to name all of our favorite Shania Twain songs, but if we named all of our favorites, well, it would be all of her songs! So, that’s it for this special edition of Rare Country’s 5.

Be sure to check out Erin’s video because when it comes to Shania, a visual is always a bonus. We’ll be back soon with more news and fun from the world of country music.
