The Oscar-winning actress and wife of country singer Keith Urban plays the role of Celeste Wright in the popular HBO series, “Big Little Lies.” Her female character in the show is married to an abusive husband, played by Alexander Skarsgård.

Like the professional that she is, Nicole took the role very seriously. However, her willingness to perfect the role went so far that she suffered from bruises on her body after shooting violent scenes. Turns out that her wounds were no laughing matter to her real-life hubby, Keith.

While speaking to Vogue, Nicole explained how Keith was “devastated” when she returned home covered in bruises after filming for the show.

“At one point Keith was like, ‘I’m going to take a photo of your back because it’s covered in deep, massive bruises.’ He was devastated seeing it,” Nicole said. “I didn’t realize how much of it penetrated me. I would go home at night sometimes and be in a lot of pain. I had to take things like Advil because I was being thrown around physically. I was really bruised.”

The 49-year-old Aussie went on to say that she hardly ever notices the toll that acting takes on her body when she’s busy doing what she loves the most.

She added, “[Keith] knows that’s how I work; I don’t even notice it half the time. I loved playing her, because she was a beautifully written character with a director that totally wanted to go there, and to have an actor like Alex to play opposite off of was amazing. That’s what we all seek as actors. But at the same time, when I walked away from it, I remember thinking that was the deepest I’ve gone in terms of finding and losing things.”
