Kid Rock is not someone you think could easily open his heart up to millions. Yet, during a recent interview with Dan Rather, the country rocker did just that when he showed off an emotional side while performing his song “Tennessee Mountain Top.”

“I’ll play it for ‘ya,” Kid Rock shyly told Dan before beginning the song.

The song tells the story of a guy who thinks California holds all of his dreams, but that the understated nature of Tennessee just might be where all of his dreams come true. The song includes lyrics “some straight shootin’ neighbors that don’t name drop” and “preacher man praying for peace but still packing a gun.”

Kid Rock fans have gotten a sneak peek at the song when he played it at Charlie Daniels’ 80th Birthday Volunteer Jam, and word is that the song might make it onto his new album later this year. And knowing Kid Rock, chances are that the song might make it into his set list as he gets ready to embark on his 8th Annual “Chillin’ The Most Cruise,” scheduled for April 4-9. He also will open Little Caesars Arena in Detroit with a string of six sold-out shows in September.
