Meet the country star who just took on a pop music mega-hit — and totally nailed it

We always knew country star Billy Currington had a bit of a soulful side.

And that soulful side was on display at a recent concert in Louisiana, as Currington returned to the stage for a special encore that included his take on the Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars mega-hit “Uptown Funk.”

It’s sure going to be interesting to see how much of Currington’s soulful side is on display on his new album “Summer Forever,” set for release on June 2. RARE Country was recently given a sneak peak at the track listing for the new album, which will be released on the Mercury Nashville label; and well, some of the song titles alone sound intriguing.

From a duet with Jessie James (whose latest single “Clint Eastwood” is currently making its way up the charts) on “Good Night” to the Henningsen-written track “Drinkin’ Town with a Football Problem” to the title track “Summer Forever,” written in part by Cole Swindell and the boys from Florida Georgia Line, it looks like Currington might just have another hit record on his hands.
