Country music super group Rascal Flatts dropped by the set of ABC’s “The View” to spread some holiday cheer on Nov. 15.
Taking the stage, they performed “A Stranger Way To Save the World” — a spiritual single from their first-ever Christmas-themed album, “The Greatest Gift of All.”
In this video, the trio, made up of members Gary LeVox, Joe Don Rooney and Jay DeMarcus, grace the studio audience amid an ice blue, wintry stage. Joe begins the song about the birth of Jesus solo on piano, while the rest of the group listens on. Then, Gary leans into the microphone to croon the second verse. Afterward they all come together in joyful harmony on the chorus.
And, boy is it beautiful!
Prior to their performance, Rascal Flatts chatted a little bit about the festive 10-track album with “The View” co-hosts Sara Haines and Candace Cameron-Bure.
“We’ve done a few Christmas songs through the years,” said Jay, “but it took us 16 years to do this album.”
Gary also added that the buddies spent breaks during the recording process tanning in the hot sun. “It’s 100 degrees in the summertime we do ‘Let It Snow,’ lay out, come in and do ‘Jingle Bell Rock,’ lay out and come back,” he said.
“We turned the temperature way down low and hung some lights up. Our drummer got into the mood. He wore a Santa hat,” Joe joked. “We tried our best. We brought some elves in from up North and watched them build toys.”
“The Greatest Gift of All” was released earlier this year on Oct. 21. The trio’s holiday spirit will shine again on Nov. 28, when they perform two songs on the annual ABC special, “CMA Country Christmas,” hosted by fellow country star Jennifer Nettles.
