A rising country star got bullied on Twitter, but decided she’s simply not having it — and neither are her fans.

It started over the weekend when a Twitter troll criticized Kelsea Ballerini’s musicianship. “If you’re going to pretend to play the guitar,” he tweeted at her, “at least be good at it.” Kelsea stood up for herself, because there’s nothing “pretend” about the country star.

The singer-songwriter immediately clapped back, pointing out that during her shows she performs a handful of tunes acoustically, where there can simply be no pretending. “Uhhhh, I do three songs acoustic … Like literally just my guitar,” she wrote, then humorously suggested to the man, “Maybe try less beer.”

Her fans also immediately sprang into action, posting multiple videos of Kelsea playing guitar onstage, as well as a few pointed reminders about the Grammy-nominated artist’s many other accomplishments.

Another rising female country star, Kalie Shorr, also offered support. The “Fight Like A Girl” singer retweeted the exchange and commented, “Why does no one accuse male artists of pretending to play guitar but it happens to girls all the time?”

The cyber bully has since changed his Twitter handle, but remains defiant. In subsequent tweets, he has called Kelsea a “blonde princess taking over country music” and urged her tweeting fans to “keep it coming.”
