If you’ve been keeping up with season 11 of NBC’s “The Voice,” then you’d know that Miley Cyrus often name-drops her godmother Dolly Parton.
Earlier this year, during the grueling blind auditions, she used a video of the country music legend as a way to plead to one contestant to pick her as a coach. Later on she got up with another aspiring star for an impromptu performance of “Jolene.”
So, if you’re like us, then you’ve probably wondered — or at least hoped — that Dolly would make an appearance on the show. Well, she finally did!
On Nov. 29, during the popular program’s results episode, which left three hopefuls vying for the chance to continue in the Top 8, Dolly joined forces with Miley, and Pentatonix for a once-in-a-lifetime, a cappella version of “Jolene.”
In this video, all artists appear on a riser. Dolly takes the first verse, as Pentatonix deliver the “oohh’s” and “aahh’s” in the background. Miley then steals the song’s second verse, as her godmother watches her proudly. Midway through the performance, the light is shined on Pentatonix member Scott Hoying, who takes the lead during the next chorus.
Dolly’s special appearance comes after wildfires ripped through parts of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where her popular theme park, Dollywood, is located.
Before a commercial break, host Carson Daly took a moment to mention the deadly fires saying, “[It’s] very cool to see our own Miley performing with her godmother Dolly Parton. They’ve performed many times I’m sure over at Dollywood. Speaking of Dollywood, I want to mention our thoughts are with the people of Tennessee and the areas affected by the fires tonight. We are thinking about you.”
Our hearts and prayers also go out to those affected by the fires at this time.
