You can’t judge a book by its cover, right? If you could, you might think that Maren Morris is fragile and delicate with her diminutive size, but looks are most definitely deceiving. Maren has a heart as big as Texas and a killer sense of humor, and when she’s passionate about something, she isn’t afraid to speak up.

Can I get a hallelujah?
On Feb. 22, Maren took a moment to talk about what moves her musically. She also took a stand about the future of music. Not just country music but “good music.”

In a series of tweets, Maren shared some very thoughtful posts, starting with one that declared a sisterhood among her fellow performers. “In a world where girls are a lot of times pit against each other, I have to say, ‘HELL no.’”
In a world where girls are a lot of times pit against each other, I have to say, "HELL no." Good music is coming back, girls AND boys.

Very proud to be apart of a historic time when women are bringing music back to our point of view, which it turns out isn't that different.

It turns out that much of what inspired the Grammy winner’s thoughts was her participation in “Cayamo 2017,” a songwriter’s festival/cruise that also included Kacey Musgraves, Ruston Kelly, Lee Ann Womack, Emmylou Harris, Maren’s boyfriend Ryan Hurd and many more. She even admitted to becoming emotional during one performance.
Spent the last few days on Cayamo tearing up during @KaceyMusgraves , @LoriMcKennaMA and Buddy Miller 's sets. We all feel the same shit.

The talented Texan then had some words of empowerment to her fellow musicians — both the aspiring and the established.
We aren't different. As a songwriter, I have so much empathy for all walks of life. We need to get to a place where guy/girl DOES NOT matter

Where you've been is not the sole signifier of who you become. Music is such a universal healer, & when I feel hopeless, I hold onto that.

But it wasn’t just fellow musicians that Maren wanted to speak to. She had some thoughts for listeners, too. Not necessarily fans, but anyone who has ever listened to her music, and it’s one of the sweetest messages we’ve ever read.
Sometimes I read mean comments about how I'm not country, or I'm not this or that enough. I want to listen to music & thought without walls.

So for those who like my music, or don't but still give it a listen with an open mind, thank you. You make me want to be a better artist.

If Music Row had a mayor, we’d nominate Maren.
