When you hear the name Deana Carter, we know you immediately start singing the lyrics to “Strawberry Wine” in your head. Though that’s her signature hit, Deana’s debut album, “Did I Shave My Legs for This?,” produced a string of No. 1 hits, including “How Do I Get There” and “We Danced Anyway.”

It’s the title track we’re featuring today, though.

The video for “Did I Shave My Legs for This” found Deana singing in a dirty trailer full of kids with a husband who couldn’t care less. While we’d seen country divas singing about the struggles of real life women, we’d never seen one of them act the song out with such humor before.

Taking a risk on naming the album “Did I Shave My Legs for This?” was a calculated move for Deana, too.

She tells Rare Country, “I honestly wanted it to be ‘Did I Shave My Legs for This?’ because it’s how I feel [with] all the waiting [for the album to come out]. But if I’ve got one shot, I want it to be something that would stand out and people would not forget, at least as a new artist.”

That gamble paid off as “Did I Shave My Legs for This?” went on to sell more than 5 million copies. In celebration of the album’s 20th anniversary, Deana’s debut project is now coming out on vinyl for the first time on March 31.
