Thomas Rhett looks right at home onstage in these fan videos from his just-launched Home Team Tour, but he admits it was shocking to see that many people come to a show with his name on the ticket.

Says Thomas, “My mind was blown. The biggest show I’ve ever put on sale with my name on it was Wild Bill’s in Atlanta. I think it held 4,000 people. So, when my team was like, ‘I think we should get out and go do this now,’ I said, ‘No, I don’t want to do this now.'”

That’s right. Thomas didn’t think he was ready to play arenas on his own. He’d been opening for his heroes like Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan for the past few years, and he was ready to just do that again in 2017.

He says, “I think I was terrified to go out and have all that pressure be on me.”

It all paid off when he opened the tour with three sold-out concerts.

“Just the energy of being a headliner and being crazy terrified about it and watching it work is one of the best feelings ever,” Thomas says.

There are some other perks to being the last guy on the bill. Thomas says with a smile, “You get to play as long as you want.”
