Seth Meyers accuses President Trump of “stealing bits” from “Saturday Night Live”

Seth Meyers is no Trump fan and Thursday night, he didn’t stray away from his distaste for the commander-in-chief. During his opening monologue, the late-night host wasted no time blasting the president. Trump recently gave an interview to Time Magazine in which he asked if he had the record for the most cover appearances on the iconic magazine when he was told that Richard Nixon had the most covers, Trump retorted, “I’m sure I’ll win.”

Meyers joked, “Do you know why Nixon was on the cover so many times?” At another point in the interview, Trump said, “I can’t be dong so badly because I’m president, and you’re not,” and that was just too much for Seth Meyers who quipped, “I didn’t mind when you talked dirty with Billy Bush or told Russia to hack Hillary’s emails, but when you start stealing bits from ‘Weekend Update’ anchors, it is on.”

“Weekend Update” is the longest running segment on “Saturday Night Live.” Seth Meyers cut his teeth behind the news desk.

During the golden age of the show, colloquially known as the “Belushi era,” the legendary Chevy Chase plowed his way through the news and garnered laughs on the segment.
