“SNL” seizes a golden opportunity with Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump

Alec Baldwin's Donald Trump reacts to a pressing question on "SNL."

What’s so funny about “SNL’s” “rebroadcast of Donald Trump’s first press conference as president-elect” isn’t anything Alec Baldwin does as Trump, or even a shirtless Putin as “CNN reporter Wolf Blitzer” holding a VHS marked “Pee Pee Tape.” It’s the fact that for the most part, they’re not wrong. Steve Harvey didn’t come out at Trump Tower and get buzzed like he was on the “Feud,” but would it have seemed so far-fetched?

Last night’s cold open was a perfect example of why Baldwin’s Trump impression has resonated so much — it’s filled with the same hilarious contempt that a lot of people feel. Pete Davidson is an unnamed reporter who stands up and asks “about [Trump’s] big Russian pee-pee party.”

“No, no. I am not talking about the pee-pee. It didn’t happen… it wasn’t as cool as it sounds.” Changing the subject to employment, Trump-win explains how he’s bringing a thick stream of jobs back to America — “The biggest, strongest, steadiest stream you’ve ever seen.” He’s got a point, though; it’s a golden opportunity.

And tackling another ridiculous point from the week, Trump-win claims the Republicans have the best Obamacare replacement ready to go: the Affordable Care Act. The GOP just wants to be showered in praise, don’t they?
