Stephen Colbert’s nuclear disaster PSA shows just how pointless resistance is

President-elect Donald Trump has said he wants to make the world more nuclear, tweeting that “the United States must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability.” And while that sent a few shock waves through the world, everybody slowly came back around.

In Thursday’s episode of “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert aired a PSA suggesting “sending the bomb a mean tweet and finishing with the hashtag #MakeAmericaGlowAgain.”

The video is a nod to the “Duck and Cover” video from 1951, an “official civil defense film produced by the federal civil defense administration and the national education association.” Basically, that short clip suggested that hiding under your desk was suitable for surviving a nuclear holocaust.
