Anson explained to us exactly what happens when you get a wound.
Here’s what we learned today:
- Your skin is the protective barrier that stops bacteria from entering your body.
- Once you get a wound, your body undergoes an immune response.
- The first line of defense is your skin.
- The second line of defense is macrophages, powerful guard cells.
- Macrophages can kill many bacteria.
- Neutrophils are located in the blood vessels, but they leave them and go to the battlefield.
- Then the dendritic cells kick in.
- Antibodies kill bacteria.
- Platelets disable the wound.
- Then, your skin rips off.
- When the infection is done, the immune cells have already died.
- The memory cells stay behind.
- If this happens again in the future, the body will be ready for it.
