If you’ve ever dreamed of being waited on at McDonald’s, your time has come.
The world’s largest restaurant chain will soon offer table service at all its U.S. locations. Customers will have the option of ordering at the counter or through a digital kiosk, then having their food brought to their tables.
The decision to expand table service nationwide came after a successful test at McDonald’s restaurants in Florida, New York City and Southern California. The company will roll out the service to locations in Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C., in early 2017.
According to the Wall Street Journal, nearly 70 percent of current McDonald’s customers choose to use drive-thrus. But the table service test showed increases in foot traffic, customer satisfaction and the amount of money spent by the average guest.
“Customers are more demanding, and we’re looking to evolve our business,” McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook said at a Nov. 17 media event. He added that “taking your kids to McDonald’s should be a fundamentally… fun experience,” but “the initial stages” of ordering at the counter, then juggling food and drinks while trying to find a table “can be quite stressful.” He said he hopes table service eliminates that stress.
The WSJ reports that table service is the Golden Arches’ latest attempt to revive slumping sales “in a market where consumers have more choices that ever to get food.”
