It seems like more and more newlyweds are eschewing traditional cakes for modern desserts, such as cupcakes.
But that’s not the only way wedding cakes have changed over the last 100 years.
For example, in the 1940s, when Queen Elizabeth II married Prince Philip, tiers were all the rage.
But when the royal couple’s eldest son, Charles, married Princess Diana in the 1980s, the cake was significantly smaller. (However, it still weighed 255 pounds!)
Nowadays, couples seem to favor “naked” cakes, or ones with minimal frosting, and the aforementioned alternatives like cupcakes and donuts.
But no matter how you slice it, the cake is the most delicious part of any wedding celebration!
