Use these tips from Bon Appétit and AOL for awesome results the next time you cook bacon on the stove.

Don’t: Heat up the pan first. The bacon needs to slowly heat as the pan heats to create the perfect crispy texture.

Don’t: Add salt. Remember what you are cooking with the bacon and under-salt the other ingredients.

Don’t: Use a thin pan. Avoid aluminum and non-stick pans. Use a heavy cast iron instead. The pan will hold more heat and warm up more slowly, which will allow the bacon to cook without burning.

Don’t: Use a microwave. At least use the oven if you don’t want to cook it on the stove.
