According to a study by the Auto Insurance Center, the average American spent nearly a full workweek in traffic in 2015, with traffic delays costing an average of $960 per year. That’s a tough pill to swallow for any commuter, especially considering that this is just the national average. Big cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. all face much rougher traffic jams on a daily basis.

RELATED: How bad is your commute? Here are the 10 worst cities for traffic in the U.S.

But which cities have to deal with the longest commutes? FindTheHome, a real estate intelligence site powered by Graphiq, collected U.S. census data from 2015 (the most recent year available) to rank the American cities based on the average commute time. Only cities with populations greater than 50,000 were considered. That left with 110 cities with average commutes of 30 minutes or more.

There are six cities with average commutes longer than 40 minutes, with four of them located in California. Six of the 10 worst commutes are located in the Golden State, though that does not include the city with the longest commute time.

Note: In the event of ties, the city with the higher percentage of people who spend 60+ minutes commuting was ranked higher. Images do not necessarily depict the city on each slide.
