More than 70 years ago, Joy Lofthouse flew the Submarine Spitfire as a pilot for England in World War II.

A member of the Air Auxiliary Transport, she loved flying. And now, at 92 years old, she got the chance to fly her beloved plane again. Saying she felt excited, but aware of her age, she loved soaring through the skies again for the first time in decades, and said flying the Spitfire was “the nearest thing to having wings of your own and flying.”
