Sara Mutschlechner, a student at the University of North Texas, was taken off life support after she was fatally shot leaving a New Year’s Eve party on Friday morning.
“I can’t wrap my brain around why someone would do this,” her friend Victoria Maxwell said.
After leaving the party, Sara, the designated driver for the evening, was approached in her vehicle by a group of people in a black SUV. After words were exchanged, shots were fired. She tried to flee but crashed her vehicle into a pole. Police were called to the scene less than two hours into the New Year.
Sara was taken to the hospital and was taken off of life support on Jan. 1.
Sara was also the philanthropy chair for her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha. The national chapter of her sorority posted a message in her memory on Friday.
Police in Denton are still searching for the suspects. They reportedly believe that they may have been at the same party Sara attended that evening.
