On Friday, Arnold Schwarzenegger announced that he will not be returning to NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice.” His first season on the show has been plagued by sub-par ratings and frequent attacks from former host President Donald Trump, who at the National Prayer Breakfast remarked that the ratings have gone “right down the tubes” since he left and asked that the attendees “pray for Arnold” and “for those ratings.”

In an interview with British film magazine “Empire,” Schwarzenegger blamed the failing ratings on his predecessor. The actor said that “when people found out that Trump was still involved as executive producer and was still receiving money from the show, then half the people started boycotting it.”

Arnold said that “even if asked to do it again I would decline…with Trump being involved people have a bad taste.” Schwarzenegger feels that the show (like many brands) has been negatively affected by the divisiveness pervasive in the country. He observed, “it’s a very divisive period now and I think this show got caught up in all that division.”
The Hill reported in February that the finale of the apprentice finished at the bottom of the four major broadcast networks.
The former bodybuilder has been in a long-standing feud with the president. Following Trump’s remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast, Schwarzenegger uploaded a video to Twitter in which he suggested to the president “why don’t we switch jobs…and then people can finally sleep comfortably again.”
