A 53-pound snapping turtle is lucky to be alive thanks to one Texas man.

The huge turtle stuck in a drain pipe was rescued after a resident roaming around the city of Hockley called Houston’s SPCA’s Wildlife Center of Texas, ABC 13 reported. Crews got to the scene near a new housing development, only to identify the beast as a threatened alligator snapping turtle.

In an attempt to open the thick pipe, the Rosehill Fire Department was called to bring their equipment and help with the rescue. The fire department managed to clear the way enough to get the large turtle out. However, different animals and other alligator snapping turtles were found stuck inside the pipe as well.
