Stunning video broadcast by CBS2 New York shows the block-long inferno. Somehow, no one was hurt, but a number of cars were heavily damaged or destroyed. The block has since been reopened to traffic.

Gold’s Plumbing owns the van where it all started. The driver, who was later arrested for driving without a license, had to pull over on 58th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue because of a mechanical problem that caused smoke in the vehicle. He stopped the car around 9:00 a.m.

Then, according to the driver, a small explosion occurred in the vehicle and burning fuel began to leak out of the bottom of the van. He ran to get help, and while FDNY responded, they couldn’t do much by the time they arrived.
