Joel Husk, an Alabama police officer, was fired on Wednesday for sharing racist memes on Facebook.

The two posts, which Husk later deleted, contained offensive jabs at African-Americans and First Lady Michelle Obama. The first was a picture of a battlefield strewn with dead bodies along with the words, “Over 620,000 white people died to free black slaves and still to this day not even 1 thank you.” The other showed a picture of Melania Trump that said, “Fluent in Slovenian, English, French, Serbian and German,” next to a picture of Michelle of Obama with the caption, “Fluent In Ghetto.”

The Talladega City Manager, Patrick Bryant, stated that Husk’s behavior violated the city’s code of conduct.

“We will not tolerate that kind of conduct by any employees. We take very seriously our responsibility to treat everyone equally and equitably.” Bryant said. “We have to make sure we take steps for the community to trust us.”

The story has been picked up by multiple news sources across the country, including Mediaite.
