An MTV reporter accused Jeff Sessions of racism, but his tweet backfired in spectacular fashion

Associated Press

Jeff Sessions confirmation hearing has been heated with protesters hollering throughout the proceedings and being removed from the chamber. Senator Feinstein blasted the possible attorney general in her opening remarks. One MTV reporter has come under fire for his tweet about the hearing, in which he accuses Sessions of virtue signalling by bringing his Asian granddaughter to his confirmation hearing.

Ira Madison III was quickly called out by other journalists on Twitter, including CNN’s Jake Tapper. Madison is a culture writer for MTV News.

He fired back at those criticizing him by saying that he meant to attack Sessions rather than his granddaughter.

The Hill reported that Sessions’ daughter is married to an Asian-American man. Madison has since deleted that tweet, but many are still upset by it. Madison has continually defended his statement.
