Assad regime gives first reaction to President Trump’s order for military action in Syria

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad condemned the United States in a statement via his office. The statement was released hours after the United States fired more than 50 missiles at a Syrian military base.

“What America did is nothing but foolish and irresponsible behavior, which only reveals its short-sightedness and political and military blindness to reality,” the office statement said.

Assad’s comments came shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the U.S. strike through his spokesman, Dmitry Peskov.

“Washington’s move substantially impairs Russian-U.S. relations, which are in a deplorable state as it is,” Peskov said.

“It creates serious obstacles to efforts in forging an international coalition to fight against it and effectively counter this global evil.”
