A Donald Trump supporter, identified as David Sanguesa, had a meltdown in a Miami Starbucks over his order. Reportedly upset over the timing of his service, Sanguesa entered a heated argument with the barista behind the counter.
A video of the incident shows Sanguesa calling the woman “trash,” “garbage” and “plain trash.”
Sanguesa alleged that his service was poor because he was white and had voted for president-elect Donald Trump. “Trump,” he would declare. “You lost,” he told her, assuming that she did not vote for the president-elect.
Another barista confronted Sanguesa to tell him that his conduct was unacceptable.
The men exchanged words just before Sanguesa walked out.
Sanguesa, who said that he had a Trump sign on his vehicle, later told NBC 6 that he was refused service:
They refused to serve me coffee, and it was very upsetting. We waited and waited and waited and had to call the- look for the manager to help us, and the lady I was with saying this is racism, discrimination. It just got out of control. She just refused to serve us coffee. It was very upsetting, and we didn’t get our money back. It escalated, I got upset, shouldn’t have got upset. I’m very sorry about that, but that’s it. Just a ridiculous thing that happened at Starbucks.
He also told a Local 10 News reporter, “She just refused to serve us. She did not want to serve us.” Sanguesa said that he apologized but that the incident was “completely discrimination and, to me, racism because of our support for Donald Trump.”
Sanguesa also added that he battled with mental illness and had not taken his medication on the day of their interaction. Local 10 News also reported that he was previously arrested in February 2014 for battery.
Starbucks released the following statement:
Embracing diversity and treating each other with respect and dignity is core to Starbucks values and something our partners take great pride in showing. We are committed to providing an inclusive, supportive and safe work environment for everyone.
