25-year-old Cary McCook has a story that just about nobody else can tell — he was tackled by a charging in deer.

Unfortunately for the young Canadian, the struggle didn’t end there. Since the incident occurred on April Fool’s Day, nobody believed him. Eventually the hotel where he was attacked pulled some surveillance footage and discovered that McCook was telling the truth.

In an interview with the Canadian Broadcasting Service, the young man recalled the incident. Here’s the play-by-play:

I get out of my truck. As you see I turn my back when I shut the door. When I start to make my way towards the entrance I hear three gallops to my left. I turned. Before I could process it was a deer and try to get out of the way — because my left leg was going left, my right leg was going right, leaving me in the middle — bam! I got hit by Bambi.

He explained that the doe wasn’t looking for a human to tackle, but was actually being chased by a dog. She even tried to leap over McCook, but couldn’t make it. He said, “the deer is okay and I’m okay. We just had a shock.” McCook is also a musician and noted that he intends to write a song about the incident.
