Hilary Swank broke through as a teen, in 1994, with her performance as The Next Karate Kid: the fourth movie in the ongoing Karate Kid franchise. She transitioned into more serious work in 1999, starring as the real-life transgender man Brandon Teena in Boys Don’t Cry. Kimberly Peirce’s indie drama was an international hit that put Swank on the map — and earned her an Academy Award.
Swank was just 26 years old when she earned her first Oscar. She wan a Golden Globe, too, for the same film. And just five years later, Swank nabbed both awards — again — for her work in Million Dollar Baby. Clint Eastwood‘s boxing movie saw Swank star as a troubled female boxer who seeks mentorship from a cranky, but caring, coach, played by Eastwood. Morgan Freeman also co-starred.
Since then, Swank has worked regularly as a producer and actress but in 2018, took a break from Hollywood to take care of her sick father, Sgt. Stephen Michael Swank. Sadly, the senior Swank passed in 2021. Since then, Swank has begun working on the ABC show Alaska Daily.
Hilary Swank’s Relationship
While filming Quiet Days in Hollywood, Hilary Swank started dating her co-star Chad Lowe, brother of Rob Lowe. The couple married in 1997 but announced their split in 2006, mainly due to Lowe’s substance abuse issues. The next year, Swank began dating her agent John Campisi, and they remained together until 2012.
Then, following a brief engagement to financial advisor Ruben Torres in 2016, Swank was set up on a blind date with Philip Schneider, an entrepreneur. And they’ve been together ever since. They wed in 2018 and now, after three years of marriage, are expecting twins.
Swank made the announcement during an interview on Good Morning America. “This is something that I’ve been wanting for a long time and my next thing is I’m gonna be a mom. And not just of one, but of two. I can’t believe it,” she told the hosts. “I’m feeling good right now.” Speaking live on TV, the star could hardly contain her huge smile.
“It’s so nice to be able to talk about it and share it,” Swank said, explaining that the pregnancy is now far enough along.
