Who is Desmon White? I follow sports religiously and never once had I heard of him–A tip of the hat to the Bleacher Report for uncovering his story.

Desmon White is a 5’6″, 155 pound high school quarterback from Texas who produced 8,095 yards passing, 4,071 yards rushing and 122 touchdowns over the course of his career. White even won the Texas Class 5A offensive player of the year award, the same one awarded to Drew Brees, Vince Young, and Cedric Benson–each of them, Texas greats that turned pro. White’s height, or lack thereof, caused him to be overlooked by nearly all Division I schools, as they had their doubts about whether he had the body to play any position at that level, let alone quarterback.

As he watched many of his teammates receive offers ahead of him, White admitted, “It did get to me some, but I tried not to think about it.” But after an increased effort to get his name and his highlights out there the tide turned in his favor.

The North Texas Mean Green extended White a scholarship offer as an athlete and kick returner, which he promptly committed to the day after. But after three weeks, Texas Christian University, alma mater of NFL great LaDainian Tomlinson, offered him a scholarship.

Despite North Texas’s offer, the opportunity to play against the likes of Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Baylor proved too great for White to turn down, especially because TCU promised him a chance to compete for a quarterback job.

Persistence personified, Desmon White has emerged as a sure underdog of the year candidate, and deservedly so.
