During the Thursday event, Trump took a question from CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta. The resulting exchange was very negative, with Trump attacking the network’s ratings as well as various shows he personally did not like.

In an interview with conservative radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt, Dickerson admitted that he wasn’t the biggest fan of the president’s behavior toward the press during the event, as well as his habit of speaking mistruths.

But the president wasn’t the only one to blame.

Hewitt said that he believes the media has “lost the country.”

Dickerson agreed with Hewitt’s sentiment:

“Yes, it’s true, and it’s not because of anything obviously Donald Trump did. The press did all that good work ruining its reputation on its own, and we can have a long conversation about what created that.”

Dickerson said that there are a lot of unwarranted hysterics in media reporting.
