John McCain isn’t too happy that the United States is being invited to be involved in the Middle East

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has spent much time focusing on Russian interference in the American election, even calling for an investigative committee on the matter. McCain, like several of his colleagues, has expressed great concern for evidence of any sort of foreign influence in the American system, even stating “the issue of cyber is not a static issue.”

During a Tuesday episode of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” McCain truly provided some better insight as to how serious he believed Russia’s interference was.

Anchor Bianna Golodryga asked McCain to comment on a Russian dissident’s statement that Russian President Vladimir Putin was not only the most dangerous man in the world, but was also a more dangerous threat to American than terrorist group ISIS.

“I agree with that,” McCain said. McCain warned that the country was “closing the gap” between themselves and Russia as far as military capabilities are concerned. McCain also urged that people look at Putin’s behavior.

“He’s played a very weak hand in the most clever fashion,” McCain said, in reference to Russia now being a major player in the Middle East despite having a smaller economy:

There’s nothing more significant than the Russians, the Iranians, and the Turks inviting the United States to come to a peace conference. The United States isn’t leading, the United States isn’t even part of it. But they’re “being invited.”

“How far we have come,” he said.
