Newt Gingrich thinks the reaction to the Chicago torture video would be different if one factor was changed

A graphic video of a white man being tortured led to the arrest of four black men and women, who can be seen and heard shouting things like “Fuck Donald Trump; fuck white people.”

Responses to the video have largely been split along party lines. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich appeared as a Thursday morning guest on “FOX & Friends” and offered his take on the reactions.

Gingrich suggested that had the racial identities of the victims and attackers been flipped, that the reactions would be very different:

“I think if this had been done to an African-American by four whites, every liberal in the country would be outraged, and there’d be no question that it’s a hate crime.”

Gingrich also suggested that America was nearing the end of a period of “deep, bitter division” in communities, something he said President-elect Donald Trump wanted to avoid.
