A youth basketball coach was locked up after cops discovered his horrific history with children

For some, Baltimore is crab shacks on the Chesapeake, the cobblestone walkways of Fells Point, a vintage baseball stadium, the retro weirdness of John Waters. But there is another side of Baltimore that is far less charming. And on Monday, April 27, 2015, that side burned. Vast swaths of east and west Baltimore were consumed by flames and anger. According to the New York Daily News, 22-year-old Channing Parker was arrested on charges he forced a child to perform oral sex on him in a single-occupancy bathroom on March 10 at the IDEAL school on W. 91st St.

Investigators then learned of another child that had been sexually assaulted by Parker two days earlier, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. Because of the additional victim, Parker’s bail was then raised from $100,000 to $200,000 at his arraignment in Manhattan Supreme Court on Wednesday.

Parker is charged with predatory sexual assault, criminal sex act, sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

Hired to help and teach children, Parker was employed by Kids Creative, a nonprofit organizer of after-school programs, since January 2015, according to the Daily News. He began working at IDEAL’s basketball program in November.

“As demonstrated by the allegations in this case, sexual predators are often repeat offenders,” District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said in a statement. “Just one day after Channing Parker’s arrest, another victim came forward.”

The DA urged parents of kids who may have had contact with Parker to call his office’s Child Abuse Unit at (212) 335-4308 to report an incident or receive counseling.
