In Cumberland County, Tennessee, one father wanted to pick his children up from school but left the campus in hand cuffs, thanks to a new pick up policy.

The father, Jim Howe, arrived on campus at 2:00 PM to pick up his two children, rather than wait in traffic for another half an hour. The new pick up policy, however, says that only children being picked up in cars can leave at 2:00 PM. The rest of the children must wait until 2:35.

Likely, the policy was aimed at children walking home alone, rather than accompanied by a parent, a fact Howe pointed out, but the school officials stood strong on their policy.

“You don’t need a reason as a parent to go get your children,” Howe said.

“I’m going to call some help down here and we’re going to take you up to the jail right now. I’m not putting up with this today. You’re being childish and it’s uncalled for,” school official and sheriff deputy Avery Aytes said.

After much back and forth and even the threat of a law suit, Howe was carted off to jail.
